The prime ministers of India and Sweden, Narendra Modi and Stefan Löfven, re-affirmed their commitment to the the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) at a Virtual Summit on 5 March, and agreed to continue their outreach to expand the membership of the Leadership Group on Industry Transitio
In this context, Prime Ministers Modi and Löfven reaffirmed their commitment to the Leadership Group for Industry Transition, the initiative both governments launched at the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Summit in September 2019. They also welcomed Sweden’s joining the International Solar Alliance, and noted their support for the UK and Italy as co-hosts of UN climate negotiations, or COP26, to be held in Glasgow in November.
With regard to LeadIT, both leaders agreed they would “continue their outreach to expand the membership of the Leadership Group on Industry Transition.” They invited LeadIT to develop a strategy for creating low-carbon steel, cement, and concrete industries. Furthermore, Mr. Modi and Mr. Löfven agreed that their respective environment ministers explore how to strengthen the work in the group even further.
