Launch of India-Sweden Partnership at COP28 paves the way for LeadIT 2.0.

On Friday 1 December 2023, at COP28, Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson convened at a High-Level COP28 event to unveil a strengthened partnership aiming to spearhead a more ambitious and accelerated global industry transition. The collaboration has been developed with the support of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT).

The new partnership between India and Sweden will strengthen cooperation on low-carbon industrial transition and support India’s transition priorities through a coordinated and bespoke offer of bilateral and multilateral technical and financial cooperation.

Clear and tangible results from the partnership are to be delivered by COP30 in 2025.

Speaking at the launch event, the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, emphasized the shared commitment: “We have decided to collaborate to strengthen relevant institutions and policy frameworks to co-develop technology, to collaborate on research and innovation, and to mobilize investments in the transition”.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed optimism about the partnership’s future impact: “I believe, together, we will be successful in writing a new green growth story for the future generation.”

Per Andersson, LeadIT Head of Secretariat, stated in a press release: “LeadIT and the secretariat welcome the partnership and look forward to supporting the collaboration to unlock green industrial projects in sectors such as steel and cement. This partnership will be a key part of the future work of LeadIT as our members push the frontiers of the green industry transition forward to achieve net-zero emissions from industry by 2050.”
