At Almedalen in Sweden,  LeadIT once again partnered with “Engaging India” in an event showcasing the strong bilateral cooperation between India and Sweden. The  overall theme “Samband for Climate: Sustainability, AI and Next Gen Innovation” provided a timely opportunity for our panel to discuss how AI and data solutions are already being used to support decarbonization projects in heavy industry and to consider how innovations can be implemented and scaled across the world.

  • Annika Ramsköld, Vice President Corporate Sustainability, Vattenfall
  • David Högnelid, Vice President Minerals, LKAB
  • Rémy Kolessar, Director of International Cooperation, Vinnova
  • Erik Enecker, CEO, Ecometrix
  • Per Andersson, Head of LeadIT Secretariat.
  • Moderator, Rupali Mehra, CMO & Head of Asia, Spowdi AB (Engaging India)

Key Takeaways

The panel explored how digital technologies such as AI and digital twins are transforming industrial operations. Speakers highlighted how these tools are being used to optimise processes, improve maintenance and safety, and enable complex inspections through autonomous systems like drones. For traditional industries, the discussion emphasised how AI is reshaping operations, shifting from manual tasks to digital solutions for example in geological mapping and analysis.

A recurring theme was the importance of greater collaboration — the need to “dare to share” — to unlock new opportunities, provided the right policy frameworks are in place. Panelists also discussed the role of cross-sector and cross-technology partnerships, and pointed to regulatory innovations such as sandboxes for net zero technologies as vital for accelerating progress.

While the challenges of data sharing were acknowledged, there was optimism that AI agents could increasingly offer controlled environments for securely testing and sharing ideas. The debate closed with a shared view that finding common pathways to address climate change is essential, and that working together will be key to building a more resilient and sustainable future.
