Workshop on net zero cement pathways in Ethiopia

This workshop on 9 September 2025, is organised by LeadIT in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Industry, the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, the Embassy of Sweden, and the Embassy of India. It will bring together key Ethiopian government stakeholders, senior leadership from within the Ethiopian cement industry, alongside international finance and academic stakeholders

The workshop is timed to coincide with the Second Africa Climate Summit, which is being held in Addis Ababa from 8th to 10th September, co-hosted by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Union Commission (AUC).

Key Objectives

  • Assess Ethiopia’s current cement sector and ongoing decarbonization initiatives
  • Review relevant global best practices, including the use of biomass for low-carbon cement, LC3 cement, and energy efficiency
  • Identify the most viable and finance-ready pathways to achieve net-zero cement production within Ethiopia’s resource, regulatory, and market realities.

The workshop will build on insights from recent engagements, including a delegation visit from Ethiopia to India, and will aim to deliver a set of practical recommendations and the next steps for policy and project implementation.
