The global transition to low-carbon industry has gained momentum since the launch of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) at the 2019 UN Climate Summit. But 2025 marked a particularly turbulent year, underscoring the critical importance of international cooperation, shared understanding, and strong partnerships. Heavy industry is still responsible for a quarter of global emissions, underscoring the urgent need for accelerated decarbonization efforts supported by evolving policies and closer alignment across sectors. Only then can the world meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Throughout the year, LeadIT strengthened its global presence, expanded its membership, and facilitated impactful collaborations, from high-level international engagements to partnerships such as the India–Sweden Industry Transition Partnership and new projects in the steel and cement sectors. These efforts highlight the importance of innovation, financing, and collaboration in driving real-world change.
