India-Sweden Industry Transition Partnership to accelerate the transition of heavy industry in India

At COP28 in 2023, Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Ulf Kristersson launched the India–Sweden Industry Transition Partnership to speed up the transition towards cleaner industryThis partnership combines Sweden’s cutting-edge clean technologies with India’s industrial scale and ambitions to build pioneering clean steel and cement projectsTogether, they are setting a model for how governments, industry, and banks coordinate their activities to build a cleaner future.

How we make an impact

  1. Building model projects in key sectors

We find and support partnerships between Indian and Swedish businesses to launch major projects in steel and cement. These serve as real-world proof that cleaning up heavy industry is possible.

  2. Preparing to grow

We connect experts working on policy, technology, and research through site vists and training programs. This helps to create the right conditions for more clean technology projects.

  3. Making green investments safer

We help projects secure government funding. This shows commitment at the highest level, which gives private investors the confidence to invest in breakthrough projects.

Hands on learning in Sweden

In early May 2025, a delegation from India visited Swedish industrial sites to see the green transition in action. The tour helped experts to move past ideas and find practical solutions for real-world implementation challenges.
