Ecometrix uses AI tools to support the decarbonization of heavy industry, especially within the construction and concrete sectors.  The company started to meet a need within the Swedish concrete industry for secure, relevant, and easily accessible environmental data to allow the accurate tracking of progress towards net-zero goals.  Ecometrix was welcomed as the 27th company member of LeadIT during an event at Almedalen.

AI for industry transition

AI, when used responsibly with regard for its own environmental impact, can play an important role in supporting companies reduce and ultimately eliminate emissions.  It can help optimise the use of energy and materials, and can assist in accelerating the development and integration of low-carbon technologies through advanced modeling. Ecometrix offers a number of data-driven solutions with a focus on using AI both for enhancing environmental performance in manufacturing and for innovating production processes. In collaboration with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), its ACORN Project aims to develop sustainable concrete recipes optimized for different applications by using AI.

Ecometrix has two proprietary platforms:

  • Archon, which offers environmental key performance indicators to allow comparisons across industry sectors and within companies and supports the tracking of progress towards net zero goals.
  • Cicero, which allows businesses to access environmental data about materials they plan to use so they can make informed choices about the most sustainable options.

Ecometrix also offer to work directly with businesses to offer bespoke data-driven support for decarbonization and has been actively involved LeadIT’s Industry Transition Partnership, travelling to India seeking collaboration opportunities.  Erik Enecker is the founder and CEO of Ecometrix, in this Q&A he explains how he believes bringing the company’s expertise in AI to LeadIT can support a greener industrial future.

Why has Ecometrix joined LeadIT?

Ecometrix has joined LeadIT because it aligns with our mission of driving sustainable and profitable construction in a net-zero world. LeadIT provides a unique platform for public-private collaboration and sectoral learning, which is essential for identifying innovation opportunities and new technologies. We know that our data services can potentially make an impact globally, and we are therefore grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with other like-minded people in an international context. By being part of LeadIT, we aim to contribute to and benefit from the collective efforts towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions from the construction industry by 2050.

What do you hope to achieve from being part of the Group?

By being part of LeadIT, Ecometrix hopes to achieve several key objectives:

  • Enhanced International Collaboration: We aim to collaborate with like-minded countries and companies globally to share best practices and accelerate our collective efforts towards a sustainable and low-carbon future. Our membership at LeadIT will serve as a good catalyst for our international ambitions .
  • Innovation and Learning: We hope to gain insights into new technologies and innovation opportunities that can help us improve our platform and services, as well as help other partners within LeadIT to utilize data and analytics to its full extent today and tomorrow.
  • Industry Transition: We aim to utilize LeadIT’s resources and network to continuously follow and understand industry transition roadmaps and innovations, particularly in the cement and concrete sectors. We aspire to contribute to the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by leveraging our data and analytics to drive substantial reductions in CO2 emissions in the construction industry.

What role do you think AI can play in the green transition of heavy industry?

AI can play a pivotal role in the green transition of heavy industry by providing data-driven insights and optimizing processes for sustainability, with impacts early on and continuously as new innovations come to the market. Analytics and AI can achieve substantial reductions by helping organisations make sustainable choices using existing technologies and processes without major investments, as opposed to some other important initiatives. Here are some key areas where AI can make a significant impact:

  • Data Analytics and Insights: AI can analyze vast amounts of data to identify patterns and trends, enabling companies to make informed decisions about resource use, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.
  • Predictive Analytics: AI can predict potential issues and opportunities, allowing for proactive measures to enhance sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
  • Process Optimization: AI can optimize manufacturing and operational processes to minimize energy consumption and emissions, leading to more sustainable practices.
  • Innovation and Development: AI can accelerate the development of new materials and technologies that are more environmentally friendly and efficient.

What will Ecometrix bring to LeadIT?

Ecometrix will bring several of what we will be valuable contributions to LeadIT:

  • Shocasing innovative solutions using AI. We can share our expertise in data analytics and AI to enhance LeadIT’s efforts in tracking industry transition progress. We can use our innovative solutions using AI, Like ACORN that optimizes concrete recipes, to show how the industry can reduce the CO2 footprint of cement and concrete production without massive investments as one of many solutions towards achieving net-zero emissions for hard-to-abate sectors.
  • Collaborative Spirit: We will actively participate in collaborative efforts, sharing our knowledge and learning to and from other members to drive collective progress towards sustainability.
  • Commitment to Sustainability: Our commitment to sustainability and our understanding of the construction industry will add value to LeadIT’s initiatives, helping to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
