Scaling Solutions, Strengthening Cooperation: a third phase for the Leadership Group for Industry Transition

Context and purpose

Since LeadIT’s launch in 2019, the landscape for industry transition has evolved significantly. Technologies have advanced, international partnerships have expanded, and industrial competitiveness and resilience have become increasingly important to the transition. But as the window for climate action narrows, governments, industry, finance, and technology providers must act together to accelerate implementation and scale low-carbon solutions across industry.

Earlier in 2026, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi committed to LeadIT 3.0, reaffirming the importance of international cooperation in advancing green industrialization. This event will set out the priorities and areas of work for this next phase in response to the evolving global context. Bringing together government, industry and other key stakeholders, the roundtable will take stock of progress and lessons learned since LeadIT’s launch, and explore how LeadIT 3.0 can translate International cooperation into practical action that accelerates the implementation of proven approaches at scale and builds globally competitive, resilient and low-carbon industries.

Proposed event objectives

  • Take stock of progress since 2019: Reflect on LeadIT’s achievements, partnerships and lessons learned since its launch.
  • Launch the priorities and work programme of LeadIT 3.0: Present details of the nex phase, building on the commitment made by the Prime Ministers of Sweden and India.
  • Explain how LeadIT 3.0 will support implementation: Address barriers to industry transition, accelerate the application of proven solutions, and strengthen the conditions for scaling low-carbon technologies and business models.
  • Mobilise partners around practical cooperation: Engage governments, industry, finance, technology providers and other stakeholders to identify opportunities and create a shared understanding of the opportunities for them to contribute to the delivery of LeadIT 3.0 following COP31.
