COP28 Side Event – Partnerships for a Just and Equitable Industry Transition

H.E. Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, India, and H.E. Romina Pourmokhtari, Minister for Climate and the Environment, Sweden, are hosting this COP28 side event that will present the objectives of the next phase of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (2024-2026), LeadIT 2.0 and a new bilateral Industry Transition Partnership between Sweden and India.

The event will address how LeadIT 2.0 will accelerate a just and equitable industry transition through partnerships, technology co-development, and financial and technical assistance focused on industry decarbonization for emerging and developing economies.

The Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019 by the Governments of India and Sweden, was established to build momentum for industry transition up until the Global Stocktake in 2023. At COP28, LeadIT members will adopt a Mission Statement for the initiative’s next phase (2024-2026) to reaffirm their dedication to accelerating a just and equitable industry transition to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Information about programme and in-person attendance can be found on the Business Sweden Website. The event will be live-streamed at Sweden at COP28 (invitepeople.com).  Further requests related to the event can be directed to secretariat@industrytransition.org.

The Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) was launched by the Governments of Sweden and India at the request of the UN Secretary-General during the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019.
